Ashdor - About Us
The Ashdor White Dorper stud is located 3km East of Keith and was established in 2004 by Sheree Heading. The original flock was started with the purchase of two stud ewes from Axis, one of the earlier studs to start up in South Australia. A further four ewes were purchased from the Saltbush stud in 2005. Through extensive use of embryo transfer (ET) and artificial insemination (AI), the Ashdor ewe base consists of approximately 100 stud ewes. Ashdor focuses on quality, not quantity, therefore flock numbers remain steady and careful selection ensures only elite ewes continue in the breeding program.
Artificial breeding has enabled Ashdor to breed from the best performing ewes while also accessing some of Australia’s top ram genetics. It has been very exciting to see the progression of the stud through AI and ET. Sires have been selected based on their shedding ability, muscling and conformation; these features are paramount in a low maintenance breed such as the white dorper. The stud utilises the services of registered scanners to provide information about muscling and growth of rams that are available for sale. This provides Ashdor with important information about the performance of the flock as well as providing purchasers with an objective measurement to aid their stock selection.
Ashdor is focusing on supplying quality, affordable rams to both stud and commercial markets, where the rams have been very well received both locally and interstate.
